We're building the connections that let behavioral health information move securely between the systems that need it, under the rules that protect it.
What we're working toward
Interoperability is easy to describe and hard to achieve, because the obstacles are rarely only technical. This is what we are being built to deliver:
- Behavioral health information that can move between organizations without being rekeyed by hand.
- Alignment with the state and federal data exchange expectations that California behavioral health organizations are being asked to meet.
- Connections that reduce the manual effort of getting information from where it was recorded to where it is needed.
- Rigorous safeguards for the confidentiality protections behavioral health information carries, which are stricter than those required for general health data.
Why this matters
Behavioral health has rarely been treated as a priority for interoperability, usually an afterthought rather than a starting point. We see it differently. Information can be both well protected and well connected, and the people served by these systems deserve both.
