California Mental Health Information Network (CalMHIN) is a California nonprofit, built on a straightforward idea: behavioral health care gets better when the information behind it is better connected.

Across California, counties support people at their most vulnerable, often with systems that don't talk to each other and infrastructure each county has had to build alone. We exist to change that.

To strengthen California communities through practical, meaningful behavioral health IT solutions. We bring counties the connected information, systems, and expertise they need to spend less time on technology and more time on care.
Our vision
A California where every county and safety-net provider, no matter its size or resources, can reach the technology, expertise, and infrastructure needed to deliver modern, data-informed care. We work to improve interoperability, connect what's fragmented, and build behavioral health infrastructure that serves communities across the state.
What we're working toward
Our north star is simple: make behavioral health care easier to access and better to receive for everyone in California who needs it. To get there, we focus on the work counties shouldn't have to carry alone:
- Advocating for counties at the state level and translating federal and state directives into clear guidance.
- Providing better data and reporting tools, so counties can measure how well their programs are working.
- Supporting the administrative and financial functions that keep counties running efficiently.
County feedback helps shape where we focus and informs the choices we make as we grow.
